Retainers

Permanent Lingual Bonded Retainers

These retainers are cemented to the tongue side of the tooth and connect the teeth to each other. Dr. Renick will put these in in some cases, however, they have some serious drawbacks. They are hard to clean and require diligent flossing and brushing to prevent gum disease and tarter buildup. The same food restrictions for braces will apply for this retainer because it is bonded with the same material. In many cases, upper bonded retainers are contraindicated because the lower teeth normally bite behind the upper teeth and can break the retainer.
