The staff here at Renick Orthodontics wants to make your new patient experience as easy as possible so we’ve compiled a step by step guideline for you!
This section will introduce you to the process of getting braces and how to manage them once you have them. You’ll learn about separators and records. You’ll get instructions on how to take care of your braces by cleaning them (proper oral hygiene) and avoiding the wrong foods.
One of the big questions new patients have is "how long?" Tips will be given to shorten your treatment time and avoid things that may extend your treatment time.
Other questions not covered here may be addressed in the FAQs section if you don’t find them here.
YOUR LIFE WITH BRACES
BRACES - THE STORY
ORTHODONTICS – A TEAM SPORT
By now, you’ve met the orthodontic team, Dr. Renick and her staff. You’ve also met the quarterback – YOU. Treatment requires the patient to be an active part to make the process run smoothly. The patient needs to maintain good oral hygiene (brushing, flossing, and regular six month dental visits) to keep the teeth from decaying or winding up with permanent scarring. Sometimes, adjuncts (additional items) are required to create the necessary tooth movements. Popular among these are ELASTICS or HEADGEAR. If these are needed to move the teeth and they’re not worn as directed, do the teeth move? No. And if the teeth don’t move, can treatment be completed on time or at all? No. We set goals WITH you and we need YOU to help us achieve those goals.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU WEAR YOUR ELASTICS AND APPLIANCES AS DIRECTED. NOT DOING SO WILL INCREASE YOUR TIME IN BRACES.
BREAKAGE WILL EXTEND YOUR TREATMENT TIME.
