What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the specialty of moving teeth. Why would anyone want to move teeth? It could be for esthetic, functional, or health reasons. Many people don’t like the "look" of their teeth and will seek treatment. Oftentimes, they benefit by improving their health and function as well as their esthetics. Crowding is a common complaint. By relieving the crowding, it also becomes easier to clean the teeth and improve the general oral health. Teeth that don’t meet in the front limit the ability to bite into certain foods. By correcting this, we improve the function of the bite.
Who is an Orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dentist who has completed a residency program for 2-3 years past their general dental degree, primarily focusing on the science of moving teeth. Dr. Renick attended a 3 year residency at The Ohio State University where she obtained a Master’s Degree. She went on to publish her Master’s thesis in the peer reviewed American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and is an active member in the American Association of Orthodontists.
