My Problem

Frequently Asked Questions

Oftentimes, patients are referred for a problem, but don’t really know why. Below is a brief list of common problems. Bite problems can result from dental problems and/or skeletal problems. Dr. Renick will evaluate the bite at your consult appointment to make the diagnosis and help you understand what needs to be done to correct it. A “malocclusion” simply means the bite is not correct. Many people have many questions and this will be an evergrowing page. If you don’t see your question or answer below, drop us a line at and we’ll add it to the list! Educating our patients about their issues is one of our main goals.

What is an “Underbite”?

An underbite is also known as a reverse overjet. Still a horizontal front to back problem, the bottom teeth are too far ahead of the top teeth. This is found in what we call a class III malocclusion. In a class III, either the lower teeth or the lower jaw is ahead of the upper teeth or jaw.
