The first visit when starting with an expander is actually a series of three back-to-back visits, usually 1-2 weeks apart.
We often get phone calls asking us to give a quote over the phone. Orthodontics is a health-based field and relies on the same diagnosis, treatment planning and implementation as other fields of healthcare. For this reason, it is impossible for the doctor to give a quote over the phone without seeing the patient, diagnosing the problem and then formulating a treatment plan. Our quotes are based on the difficulty of the case, the ESTIMATED treatment time and the appliances needed to fix the problem. One of Dr. Renick’s goals at the consult visit is to help you understand the problem and solution you are investing in for the benefit of your child’s or your own oral health.
Imagine this… you are having chest pain… how much does it cost to fix it? The chest pain could be caused by anxiety and a simple fix is medication. The chest pain could be caused by a partial blockage in an artery that can be fixed by a stent. The chest pain could be a heart attack requiring open heart surgery and a coronary artery bypass. In this scenario, the key is the diagnosis of the problem, the treatment plan, and then the implementation of the plan. The cost is dictated by what needs to be done.
At the time of the consult, a case fee will be quoted. Our staff works hard to get you answers to insurance questions BEFORE you come in so that you have all of the information you may need at the time of the consult. PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT ALL INSURANCE INFORMATION IS AN ESTIMATE AND NOT A GUARANTEE OF PAYMENT. This is a disclaimer that all insurance companies play on their automated systems when calling to obtain coverage information. Many times it is accurate, however, most insurance companies will not officially provide a quote until a claim or predetermination is submitted. The claim itself cannot be submitted until treatment begins. As part of our service to our patients, we will submit all the claim forms and do our best to make sure that our patients receive their full benefits.
Insurance has many ins and outs depending on the plan and the insurance company. Orthodontic insurance policies work slightly different than other healthcare insurances because most of them are based on a total case fee and a lifetime maximum regardless of the treatment plan. In the majority of cases, the insurance does NOT pay in a lump sum, but on a schedule over the course of the treatment time. As a service to our patients, we are happy to answer any questions you may have when you start treatment. These questions may involve non duplication clauses, dual insurances, lifetime maximums and how the benefit is paid out over time.
Dr. Renick understands that patients come to see her because they want to do what’s best for their own or their child’s medical and dental health. For this reason, we offer a variety of discounts and payment options to help make treatment more affordable in order to achieve a healthy, functional bite.
